Media Ready, Media Savvy: The Workbook for Authors

Most writers have no experience with the media. No experience answering quick questions from a reporter or TV or radio host with answers that sound strong and clear. Unless you’re exceptionally talented in this area, preparation and practice is the way to go.

Media Ready, Media Savvy: The Workbook for Authors by Alison Hill

Many of us think all we have to do is write our book and we’ll know how to talk about it. But that’s not the case.

The work of creating well crafted messages about your book to help the public understand quickly and easily whether the book is for them is like writing poetry. It is very distilled, and takes a lot of work.

Alison Hill, both a seasoned reporter and TV producer, as well as a novelist herself, has been on both sides of the media. She’s been the reporter interviewing authors. She’s been the TV producer looking for the authors her audience wants to know about. And, she’s been the writer looking for an audience for her work.

Many of us think that getting our message crafted is something we can do in one afternoon and be ready to go. But for most of us, it is a step by step process, that takes time and thought, practice and more practice.

Media Ready, Media Savvy offers aspiring authors and authors the chance to start at the beginning and explore all the elements of their manuscripts and books, as well as all the elements of their own lives, to draw to the surface the most interesting, engaging, rich message for the world.

Why should they read your book? Why should they pay attention to you? What is unique about this work? What is unique about you?

Media Ready, Media Savvy is an actual workbook, meant for you to pull out your pencil and eraser and start writing out the answers in the book itself. Printed in an 8×10 format, almost the size of the printed page, with lots of lined space for you to write out your answers, in section after section of the book, Alison Hill will be challenging you and encouraging you forth.

As a publisher who is also an author with one book published, and more in the works, it was all I could do to not stop and start working in the workbook myself.

Get a copy for yourself, buy a few extra for your writing and author friends. Get together and go through the workbook in a group.
